    2 ideas so far …

a portfolio/ photo gallery for make up artist students to enable them to upload their own pictures (that s a business I am starting with one of my friends) not very original but helps to pay the rent.

Second one, a website for designer to post their artwork (Photoshop, Iliustrator) with a profile for everyone. No blog on it but instead a chat room (msn messenger style) with enabled webcam.

Nice, ..thank you, ..areas to research on these ideas as follows:

    1. Image uploading applets, most notably TinyMCE and the accompanying FileManager (PHP version) or Java image uploaders, .this may involve demoing a number of different ones, and potentially paying for a licence for your chosen applet, but this is a worthwhile investment.

    2. People i would imagine would not want to share their .ai/.psd files without suitable reward, and again this reqires looking into upload applets as you are limited to 8-10MB with browser based HTTP uploads.
Profiles though, not a problem, ..same with chat, although personally i think we are all members of enough chat sites, ..facebook chat/myspace chat, .they don’t work because everyone uses msn/skype/aim etc, ..so maybe look at incorporating these into your site rather than creating a new solution to something that potentially does not require one.

Well done though, ..thank you for being the first.

    Ideas for dynamic website:

    1. ticket ordering site for music events.

2.site where you can buy/sell music equipment

3.site where you can buy holidays/flights

    4.portfolio

5.site where you can buy cosmetics (organic) for example for the shop culpeper/ neals yard.

6.educational website, for example for studying for exams, i.e GCSE’s with chat forums for advice and help?

    Excellent, thank you Lucy.

    1. Nice event management software you would need to create, which is very useful for other applications (anything that requires booking based on date/time), which means you would get to experiment with date/time in PHP and also get to make some nice complex forms. A nice idea though because the boundries are very well defined.

    2. Gum-tree/craigs list clone, always a good one as you have commerce, profiles and specific item management to deal with, ..possibly bigger than you think, but would definitely benefit form a bit of innovation (see Craigslist.org massive userbase, no style at all, and no direct commerce, users are simply put in touch with each other).

    3. The same as no.1 in terms of technology, …my only reservation would be the ability to aquire the dummy content (flight info) in order for this to work/be tested effectivly, ..unless you do a little research and find out about the global flights database that MUST exist somehwere or other :) ..rather you than me though.

    4. Mais bien sur.

    5. Shops, ..always nice as they lend a lot to those skilled in design, then you get to experiemnt with product management, categories, users, ..and 3rd party payment API’s (i would avoid making your own cart, ..well you can, but it would be more useful to learn the 3rd party system such as Paypal, WorldPay, GoogleCheckouts as these are what you would most likely use in your career.)

6.yes yes yes, .big market in e-learning, …i think you would need to think seriously about exaclty what service you are offering, and does it exist already, .maybe a revision bookmarking service for GCSE kids where you can search bookmarked articles, book links to amazon, resources etc, ..by subject etc, ..as the GCSE/A-level syllabus has a common national consistency.

Well done, ..good ideas, ..thank you.

    Some project ideas.
.Portfolio with one page for my newest clients, where they can see the progress of their web site, timeline progress calendar and assets needed by them to upload the site.

.A web site builder, with same restriction and is can of pre-design.
for example if they choose one colour as background, for the text they have between two others colours to choose.

. newspaper web site, If something happen in the world this web site will read that information, translate it to english and keep it for 24h.
Actually this web site has a database with all newspaper in the world to read this information.

    Thank you Marjorie

.Fantastic idea, ..The portfolio is always a steadfast entry, but including it with a ‘useful’ client area is a good show of business organization, ..Have a little look at some called BasecCamp …it is an excellent fully functional industry version of what you r imagining, …their are many functionality and interface elemets that would be wise to research into, ..but also a lot to be improved on (coming from an avid BaseCamp user.

.this is not as simple as it sounds, ..but could be an incredible project …it involves generating pre-defined code on the fly into files, whilst also generating a user preview ….have a look at
    PHPForms ..
…and also CSS Layot Generator for inspiration.

.a website with all of the newspaper in the world ….is that not the internet! …it seems this would be more suited as an RSS grabber, …some kind of portal that translates news, ..there are issues with ‘free’ translators on the net, ..they are usually a bit sh!t ..i am trying to think of more things to say in this one, but the other two ideas were so strong, ….that i may have run out.

    Well done, ..thank you.

    Ideas for dynamic Website:

    1) Business mailing list is always worth considering for a PHP website.

    2) A personal Portfolio Website which will include all the work you have done till present and in addition we can have guestbooks and blogs for visitors and clients.

    3) Third and finally A car Sound product website. Somthing very similar to e-commerce but not exactly the same. the website will enable clients to get detailed information for the apporiate product. Products may vary from Amplifiers, Music systems etc.

Just in the nick of time ….thank you. .
    1) Business mailing site, ..very useful if you build a front end to collect emails in a number different ways, ..then this could be slotted into any existing site, ..the trick here is to look at functionality being offered by off the shelf products and improve on it, ..multiple lists, group, multiple sending options, ..HTML emails :) ..there is a lot of scope here.

    2) The old portfolio site, ..this i leave up to your imagination.

    3) Commerce is always good one to play with, especially if you can add a twist, ..maybe a car mockup which allows you to place your system ,..suggesting appropriate crossovers, amps, cabling etc, ..so you can actually fully spec out your car. …mm, ..the imagination runs wild with this one.

time to make you happy bunny :)

was thinking, what to do to pass this module (:p) and to be honest so manyin my head, and only problem is I’m not sure if I’m not throwing stones to hit the moon …
    - was thinking to build on/off line application for managing hotel/apartments booking (aprt taken, or not how long stay etc)
    - CMS for this website:
http://www.kej.pl/home_site.html - new products update on the go…
    - subscribe for our newsletter application,
-and smth for me - some easy application helping me to keep all host passwords, emails, names - all u can imagine what you might need - in some clean and neat order: by domain name, customer name…

    what do u think… :)

I am a happy bunny, ..of the non-vibrating kind.

I like you ideas for apps that are of use to you the most, ..especially the catalogue of useful information for each project
    - ftp details, passwords, logins, emails, phone numbers, ..like a project resource centre. Will you make it for me :)
The thing here is going to be security, ..you will need to look into encrypting data in the db and then decrypting it for display, ..not too difficult at all, …look up MD5 (http://uk.php.net/md5) to tell you the basics.

I also like the hotel booking system, ..see booking system comments made on earlier post.

As for the products CMS, ..this is always a good idea, ..but i prefer the others :)

Ideas I have had so far…
1)Online events organiser for friends, family and strangers to log into and sends them notices when ever they log in relating to details they have filled in.

2)Online personal diary. For people to be able to access their addresses, phone numbers, diary entries etc.

3)Portfolio/blog site for people who love trainers, can leave written/visual blogs, personal entries, art work, sell and buy trainers….anything to do with trainers.

1). ..this i like, ..like a party/event organizer, …like creating an event on FB, but with more functionality, ..collect emails, send reminders, something people could use to manage any event, ..a lot of thought on the functionality needs to be done here, ..my mind is going crazy on it…

    2) Like Google Calender, Google Diary, Google Contacts, Google Blog all rolled into one, …lucky for you, ..the last 3 don’t actually exist, ..beat them to it. …definitely not as simple as it sounds though.

    3) …mmm, ..trainer goodness, ..shop/portfolio all rolled into one, ..it ticks all the boxes, …i am torn between this and 1. ,,,…i think i prefer 1, ..luckily i do not have to do it :)

    1. Site where you can create your html/css C.V upload it and it will go to all the companies that offer a job.

    2. Website where i combined my music and my hosting

    3. Site where you can upload a track and work on that track with anybody .

Few ideas still but can really explain them to myself

    Thank you Eugene, ..

    1. This is a really nice concept, ..i am not sure how the functionality overlaps sites such as LinkedIn, ..but my main query is, ..erm, ..how does the system know ‘all the companies offering a job’ :)

    2. We spoke about this, i personally feel that the hosting site should be kept pretty corporate, ..and should be separate from personal sites, ..but then what the hell do i know :) ..except my opinion.

    3. I like this one, …a lot, ..the important thing is to explore the functionality of ‘working together’ on a track, ..is this a musical online arm of something like SubVersion, or a new concept, ..i like it though.

    4. You mean like an online media shop/portfolio for media professionals, …i like this one as so many of us have many different things to sell from t-shirts, designs, tracks, tutorials, templates etc etc, ..would be nice to be able to showcase them all under one roof.

Here are 3 ideas, better late than never I hope!

    1/
My mate has just started designing and printing his own t-shirts. I’d like to make an online-shop for him to sell them.

    2/
Having in the past tried to write the odd tune and not being a musician I really struggled with knowing what cords and notes I could use when I picked a key. I recently found a site that lists every combination there is but its not very organised or easy to use. My site would be easy as entering the key than a list of combinations and a helpful guide would follow. There would be a randomiser to help with musical inspiration.

    3/
A holiday destination guide – type in a destination than a list of info will appear, i.e. weather, currency, sight seeing. There would be sections aimed at different types of holiday maker, i.e. couples, groups, adventure etc

Thank you, ..yes, always better late than never, …except being hit by a car, ..that we leave for never !

    1/
Online shop, ..definitely a solid idea, ..although i love idea2/ so much i would leave this one for the off the shelf 3rd party systems, ..either Wordpress with the WP-Commerce plugin, or OS_Commerce if he has a lot of item to sell.

    2/
I absolutely love this idea and think it is defintely the one to go for, …you are organizing information that can be grouped, categorized and suggested based on many varying parameters, ..but there is a system/sequenceto the association of keys/chords/notes, …and if you enjoy the subject matter, although you may not by the end, ..you will gain a lot of joy form this, ..and if it is good, ..make some money/traffic.
A lot of thought/planning is required though, …how exactly the content links to itself, and how the site will be structured.

    3/
This is a good idea, ..not as good as the last one :) …the main obstacle as a student would be gathering all of the dummy information to make the site functional, which could use a lot of time that you could be spending coding, ..or doing idea 2/ :)

    Mog,
Another just passed in my brain for the web project. I am currently backgrounds in photoshop and I have shown them to various people - they reckon I could sell them. So I ve got a few questions, could I do a shopping facilities on my website and if yes the problem is that they are optimised for web so the print will come out nasty - what do you reckon? is it a good idea (Iguess you will have to see the artwork ).
    Thanks,

    Hi Mog,
We already spoke about my project idea very briefly but i decided to share with everyone who will read this blog.
Well i want to create a website for my friend who is in the music industry,
I want him to be able to upload is own production and DJset whenever he want to, also be able to advertise his party and events (personnal content management). A blog page will be created for people who want to share their feeling or critics. I would like the people to be inform when something new just been add to the website.
So that is it for the website!!!
    Happy holiday Mog have fun!
And see you in 3 weeks.

Right, ..i will deal with you both at once, ..lie a double team, so to speak ;)

…Selling online media, ..backgrounds, ..images, ..really nice,. ..what you are dealing with is a CMS that supports massive categorization/organization of products, maybe with also tags included, and a commerce system like paypal or suck like…so this is always going to be a useful project to do.

Julien, …what can i say, ..you have a complete idea :) …so get designing, ..and also start to think about exactly what you want your site to do in terms of functionality,…think about what your USERS can do, ..and also what your ADMIN can do.

1- I would have to say, you r own fully functional social network is a lot of work, especially as there are a number of very efficient off the shelf versions, …however it is not impossible, ..just ask Dana in the degree class, she managed it.

2 - Photographic commerce site, … - see above comments on the other similar ideas above.

3 - Gumtree/ Craigslist, ..again this is a great idea, ..see the comments above for Lucy.

    Thanks.

Nice ideas, ..even if a little late :)

    1) i like this one as it has commercial value, ..but this means as well as getting the technology right you will certainly need to get the interface design and usability spot on.

    2) …this is also nice,..this and 3) require some research into the basic functionality of social networking, as you will need to be adding elements of functionality one at a time, in a sort of modular plugin manner, as you will have no idea how long this will take and how much you will be able to fit into the 12 weeks, ..so you need to make sure you do the most important bits first:

    - site framework
    - profiles
    - login
    - calendar
    -events
    -profile customization
    - etc etc, ..the list goes on :)

A job site like scriptlance.com or peopleper hour.co.uk. Buyers can post their jobs (i.e gardening every monday afternoon) and bidders can place their bids. Auction ends after a defined time and the buyer can decide which offer to accept. Also there must be an escrow account function implemented for jobs that can be done online (i.e. website). Users can put a rating for the job and users will be ranked. Host gets a certain ammount of each job. Each user can create their own profile… Also a project message board should be available to talk about the job details

I love it, ..really i do, ad if you look at scriptlance.com it is not technically an auction, everyone has a specified amount of time to put in their quote and then the cliet can choose which one to accept.
Personally i would make 2 modifications though, …i would not publically display the quote amounto to anyone except the client, and also i would distance myself from all financial transactions unless yo were making a cut, ..which for this project of course you would not be, ..why, ..simply speaking, if you take away the financial responsibility it frees you up to spend more time on the user experience and interface, ..and if you do create the ‘next big thing’ then you could add the finance in later, ….but for now allowing the client and supplier to sort this out removes a large amount of legl and technical responsibility from you.
The feedback system though, ..essential, …people must be able to build up reputations.
Now spec it :) ..think about every single thing you want the client to be able to do, everything you want the registered supplier to do, .and everything you want the unregistered user to be able to do.

Basically the next stage is to brain storm every bit of functionality you can think of, …don’t go overboard (suppliers dont need links to their flickr/last.fm profiles :) ) but if you spec everything,. .then you can prioritze based on time constrainsts, and then when youhave all of the possible fnctionality it makes it much easy to separate the important core functionality.
Well done for getting the ball rolling, ..thank you.
